Re: 2014 Staff Senator Election Voting Has Begun

The nomination process for the staff election to the University Senate is now complete. New Brunswick and RBHS staff members will now have the opportunity to vote for the candidates that they feel will best represent their interests in the Senate (Newark and Camden staff, please see below, under “Uncontested Elections”). The University Senate is an important advisory and legislative body that represents the entire community of staff, faculty, students, administrators and alumni to Rutgers University's president and boards.

Voting Process

In order to simplify the voting process, a Staff Senate Elections website has been created. The website allows you to learn about the candidates by reading their personal statements, and then vote for the candidate(s) of your choice. You may now vote at the Staff Senate Elections website at All votes are confidential and must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2.

After the votes are tabulated, a notification will be sent announcing the election results. This year, twelve (12) of the eighteen (18) staff representatives will be elected to the University Senate for two-year terms. This year, twelve (12) of the eighteen (18) staff representatives will be elected to the University Senate for two-year terms, apportioned to each major campus/division as follows:

  • Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), all locations - 4 seats;
  • Rutgers University-Camden - 2 seats;
  • Rutgers University-Newark - 2 seats;
  • Rutgers University-New Brunswick - 4 seats.

The remaining six (6) staff terms on the Senate are currently held by Senators who will be continuing in those positions through June 30, 2015.

Employees may only vote for representatives from their own campuses.

Uncontested Elections in Newark and Camden this Year

Please note that in Newark and Camden the number of eligible nominees did not exceed the number of available positions, so voting for/by Newark and Camden staff is not necessary this year.

New Brunswick and RBHS Elections

There are many eligible nominees for New Brunswick and RBHS this year, so the elections for those campuses is being held. Please be sure to vote if you are New Brunswick or RBHS staff.

Thank you for participating in this important election process.
