Division of Dining Services
Cooks Training - annual
Chefs from the Culinary Institute of America are brought to New Brunswick for a week every year to prepare two meals a day with Dining Services chefs. All employees who complete the training receive a certificate, a personalized chef coat, a CIA pin, and a set of chefs knives.
Family Day - annual
All union employees and their families are honored at an annual Family Day at Sonny Werblin Center. Managers prepare breakfast and lunch and coordinate entertainment - horseback riding, games and rides for the children - and events both recreational and educational. Programs offered throughout the day include drug and alcohol prevention (police department and DARE vehicle), fire prevention (with fire engine rides for the children), financial services (Credit Union), and career planning (interviewing and promotional opportunities).
Managers Retreat - annual
An annual retreat for managers each January includes a tour of the Culinary Institute of America, with a presentation or training by a CIA chef. A reception and dinner honors First Timers, new managers on the team, with a formal introduction and presentation of Rutgers gear. The dinner also provides an opportunity for recognizing all managers for special contributions and perfect attendance.
