RideShare is a carpool program open to all Rutgers Faculty and Staff on all campuses. RideShare is facilitated by University Human Resources to help you connect with others who share the same interest in conserving energy and saving on their commuting expenses.
To participate in RideShare simply follow these steps:
Register with RideShare - you will be asked to sign in with your NetID/Password and to complete a simple form. This puts you into the RideShare database so others can find you.
Search the RideShare database - after you've registered you will be allowed to search the RideShare database for a carpool buddy. (Check back on a regular basis and allow time for others to register).
Cancel your registration - after you're carpooling or if you change your mind, remember to remove yourself from the RideShare database.
Tips for successful carpooling:
Email the individual(s) that match your search and meet during lunch or for a cup of coffee to get acquainted and comfortable with one another.
Consider starting out on trial basis by carpooling one or two days a week.
Decide on schedules, pick-up location, waiting times, and side trips (e.g., child’s school, coffee shop). New Jersey Park-n-Rides are a great option for meeting up with your carpool group.
If you expect to be reimbursed for gas, come to an agreement on a method before you begin carpooling.
Create a phone list and agree on how others in the carpool will be contacted in the event of illness, car trouble, inclement weather, or schedule changes that may interfere with your carpool routine.
Check with your insurance agent for possible discounts on carpooling!
Other ways to conserve energy:
Consider taking the train to work. See if New Jersey Transit is an option for you. Trains and buses are available.
The Commuter TaxSave Program allows for pre-tax savings for individuals who choose to commute to work.
Campus buses are always an option for employees and each campus has a schedule to meet your needs.

Rutgers RideShare is offered simply as a means for University community members to voluntarily connect with one another for purposes of ride sharing; neither ride sharing nor the use of Rutgers RideShare is mandatory. It is the sole responsibility of those entering into rideshare arrangements to come to and honor mutual agreements with/among one another as to the terms of their ridesharing arrangements. The University does not accept any responsibility on or behalf of individuals who do not honor their part of such arrangements, and the University will not involve itself in the resolution of disputes of any kind among or between ridesharing participants. Moreover, it is still the responsibility of each individual to ensure that his/her ridesharing arrangement will permit him/her to arrive at and remain at work for all work hours.
