The following needs to be considered as you lay off a staff member represented by a union:

Benefits at Layoff

Employees are encouraged to take any accrued vacation time prior to the effective date of their layoff with your approval. Your employee is entitled to compensation for any unused earned vacation time that remains at the effective date of layoff. Benefits will end based on the date of layoff. COBRA will be extended to employee to continue coverage for a period up to 18 months.
