State Health Benefits Program - Information for
Part-Time Employees
Who Is Eligible
Part-time employees enrolled in a state-administered retirement plan are eligible to participate in the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP).
Payroll deduction is not available for this program. The NJ Division of Pensions and Benefits will bill you on a monthly basis. Invoices will be mailed to your home address.
Coverage Available
- Health Option - NJ DIRECT 15, administered by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield
of NJ - Prescription Drug Option - Prescription Drug Program administered by Caremark. You must enroll in NJ DIRECT 15 to participate in the drug program.
When Coverage Begins
- New employees may enroll immediately upon hire.
- Effective date of coverage:
- Academic year 10-month employees with September 1 hire date, effective date = September 1
- Calendar year 12-month employees, effective after a 2-month waiting period
(example: August 15 hire date, October 15 effective date).
How To Enroll
- Complete Part-time Employees Group State Health Benefits Program Application
- Return the competed Application to: Division of Payroll Services, ASB Room 317, Busch Campus.
