Pay-for-Performance Program (P4P) Overview

Eligible Managerial, Professional, Supervisory, and Confidential (MPSC) non-aligned employees who are Type 1 staff members are eligible to participate in the Pay-for-Performance Program (P4P) and are formally appraised annually. This program is a merit-based compensation plan that fosters an environment of excellence and professional growth among staff, and provides for direct correlation between individual performance and individual reward.

The P4P program has two major components: performance management and appraisals, and compensation. The performance management component is critical in ensuring that the university’s goals of excellence are maintained.

The performance management component ensures the following:

Performance appraisals provide an opportunity for regular dialogue between you and your supervisor. Your supervisor will identify and discuss performance standards for key job responsibilities and communicate to you the extent to which you meet standards.

The compensation component is intended to recognize and differentiate between satisfactory and unsatisfactory work performance. The appraisals are used as the basis for awarding salary increases and performance bonuses, subject to the availability of university funds.

Every spring your department will facilitate performance appraisals to address performance and determine the individual salary increases and/or bonuses that will become effective at the beginning of the new fiscal year.

Each year University Human Resources distributes to eligible staff and their supervisors the guidelines and forms necessary to participate in the program. Information sessions and workshops may also be offered to supervisors to assist them in understanding the program and their role in this essential process.
