The Disabled & Covered Veterans
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is a federal contractor subject to Section 503 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 402 of the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, and the Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998, which state that the federal contractor will recruit, hire, train and promote persons in all job titles and ensure that all other personnel actions are administered without regard to special disabled veteran or Vietnam Era veteran status and ensure that all employment decisions are based only on valid job requirements.
It is university policy to make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with a disability. Requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis and accommodations will be made if they are reasonable and do not cause undue hardship. If you have a disability, or become disabled during your employment at the university, and you believe there is an accommodation that could be made to enable you to perform the essential functions of your job, e.g., special equipment, changes in the physical layout or schedule of the job, or reassignment of nonessential functions relating to the job, talk it over with your supervisor.
As a federal contractor, the university is required to monitor the number of employees who have a disability or are covered veterans. If you are an employee with a disability, a special disabled veteran, or a covered veteran, please let us know by completing and returning the Self-Identification Form to the office of Employment Equity. You may complete this form now or at any time during your employment at Rutgers. Submission of this form is voluntary and failure to do so will not influence employment decisions. All information on the form is confidential. It will be used for federal reporting only.
If you have any questions regarding the University’s affirmative action programs or your rights as an individual with a disability or covered veteran, please contact the Office of Employment Equity.
