Re: Employee Pension Contribution Increase for Members in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Effective July 1, 2017

This is a reminder that effective July 1, 2017, your PERS employee pension contribution rate will increase from 7.20% to 7.34% of your base annual salary.  This increase will be reflected in your paycheck dated July 14, 2017.

In 2011, Governor Christie signed Chapter 78, P.L. 2011 into law, resulting in the establishment of a phased-in increase to the PERS pension member contribution, commencing on July 1, 2011 and ending on July 1, 2018, when the employee pre-tax pension contribution rate for members of the PERS system will reach 7.5% of base annual salary.

In order to transition to the new PERS contribution calculation of 7.5%, member contributions have increased by 0.14% of base salary each year since July 1, 2011, with the final increase of 0.16% scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2018.
