How do I submit a claim?

Complete a Vision Care Plan Claim Form, attach original receipt(s) to claim form and forward to:

How long does it take to receive reimbursement?

Please allow 1 – 2 weeks for processing. Vision Care reimbursement will be included in your regular paycheck, under the code "VisionReim."

How often can an eligible employee be reimbursed?

Employees can receive reimbursement once every two year contract period. The current two year contract period is July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017.

Is the reimbursement taxable income?

No, it is not considered taxable income.

Is there a monthly premium?

No, there is no monthly premium.

What are the benefits?

  • Up to $45 reimbursement for purchase of single vision eyeglass or contact lenses
  • Up to $50 reimbursement for purchase of bifocal or trifocal lenses
  • For all contact lenses, 1 box per eye will be reimbursed, not to exceed $45 for single-vision contacts or $50 for bifocal / multifocal contacts

When can new employees use the program?

Academic year
10-month employees with September 1 hire date are eligible September 1st

Calendar year
12-month employees are eligible after 2 months of continuous employment (i.e. August 15 hire date = October 15 effective date)

When does coverage terminate?

Academic year
10-month employees – coverage is suspended July and August and resumes September 1 if reappointed

Calendar year
12-month employees – coverage continues until the end of the month of the last day in pay status.

Where will my reimbursement checks be mailed?

Effective February 15, 2013, employees will receive their reimbursement through either direct deposit, if enrolled, or in their biweekly paycheck. This reimbursement will have a payroll code of "VisionReim" on the paystub and will not be subject to taxes or pension calculations.

Who is eligible to receive reimbursement?

  • Legal spouse or same sex civil union or domestic partner
  • Regularly appointed full-time faculty and staff employees (Class 1, Class 6 and full-time Class 3 employees) *Please be advised that the Rutgers University vision care plan does not apply to RBHS employees
  • Children until the end of the year in which they attain age 26
