FAQs - Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ Information Security Breach
Earlier in January, a laptop computer belonging to a Horizon BCBSNJ employee was stolen. This laptop contained information including name, address, and social security number data on approximately 10 percent of Horizon’s customers. Members enrolled in the Traditional Plan and NJ PLUS who were affected have received individual letters from Horizon BCBSNJ regarding this situation.
Horizon BCBSNJ has password protected all personal information on their laptop computers. All confidential information is also encrypted. Additional security features on Horizon's computers are designed to delete all information on the laptop computer if it is connected to the Internet. As such, there is no reason to believe that personal information can be accessed from a stolen Horizon BCBSNJ laptop computer.
Horizon BCBSNJ is offering one year of free credit monitoring service through ConsumerInfo.com to any member who received notification concerning this event.
If you received the notification letter from Horizon BCBSNJ, you can get more information by calling the company directly at 800-447-3798.
