Employees receive notice of an impending layoff. The length of the layoff notice varies by employee group. Union employees may be eligible to exercise their "bump" and/or recall rights. Do I get a severance package if I’m laid off?
No, the university does not offer severance packages to laid off employees.
Are holidays counted in the layoff notice period?
Yes.

What happens to my accrued unused paid time off (vacation, administrative leave, and personal holidays) once I have received my layoff notice?
An employee is entitled to compensation for any unused earned vacation time that remains at the time of layoff. In order not to lose unused accrued administrative leave (AL) and personal holidays (PH) time, you must use this leavetime during the notice period.
Will I be paid for my unused sick time?
No, you will not be compensated for any unused sick time.
What happens to my tuition remission? What happens to tuition remission for my child?
In order to be eligible for the tuition remission benefit, you must be a full-time regular salaried faculty or staff in active status as of the first day of class. If the effective date of your layoff is after the first day of class, you will be eligible for tuition remission for you and/or your child for that semester only.
Will the university help me find a job?
University Human Resources, along with the campus human resources offices in Newark and Camden, will provide information and services to assist laid off employees. Workshops on interviewing, resume writing, career planning, and job search strategies will be offered, as well as easy-to-access resources to research and pursue employment opportunities available in the job market.
