WEATHER EMERGENCY – CAMPUS(ES) CLOSED POLICY

When the university is closed because of a weather emergency, the following procedures are in effect:

NOT ESSENTIAL SERVICES

The policy provides that employees who are not essential services personnel are excused with pay for up to one work day during a period of “Weather Emergency – Campus Closed.” Absences beyond the period of closing must be charged to appropriate accrued time (Vacation, AL, PH, or LW).

However, because of the extraordinary circumstances on the Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden Campuses, the university has determined that non-essential service personnel should be excused with pay for all scheduled work time during which the “Weather Emergency – Campus Closed” was in effect. As a result, non-essential employees on the Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden Campuses should be excused with pay for scheduled work during the period of closing.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES

Consistent with the university’s policy, essential services employees who were required to work or who were required to remain on duty, AND who are eligible for overtime will be paid their straight time pay PLUS time and one-half for all hours worked during the period of closing.

An essential services employee who did not come to work may not be paid for time not worked during the period of closing on the employee’s assigned campus.

ADDITIONAL USEFUL INFORMATION

  • During this designated “Weather Emergency – Campus Closed,” employees with previously scheduled paid time away from work will not be required to charge time against accrued leave.
  • Class 4 employees are to be compensated only for time actually worked.

Questions concerning application of the Attendance During Adverse Weather Conditions policy to the Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden Campuses may be directed to the Office of Labor Relations, 848-932-3914.
