Training For New Employees

As a new employee at Rutgers, you may need, or be expected to, participate in specific training that will assist you with job-specific skills, expose you to university policies and practices, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and help you become comfortable with the university.

Absence Reporting System (ARS)
This hands-on workshop provides a general overview of the online Absence Reporting System including login, data entry, reporting, and records storage and retrieval.

Business/Accounting Certificate Program (BACP)
The Business/Accounting Certificate Program offers staff the opportunity to earn a Business/Accounting Certificate or a Business/Accounting Supervisor Certificate. The program focuses on how to effectively conduct business in the university.

Computer Software Skills
Training in a wide range of software is available. Offerings include Microsoft Office applications, web design applications, and SAKAI, among others.

Defensive Driving
Rutgers offers the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course so students, faculty, and staff can meet the university requirement that all employees who operate a university-owned, leased, or rented vehicle attend such a course.

Internet Procurement (RIAS) Training
The Internet Procurement (RIAS) system is the university’s online purchasing system. Classes are offered for those who “prepare” purchases and those who “approve” purchases.

Pay-for-Performance (P4P) & Staff Compensation Program (SCP)
Pay-for-Performance is the university's performance-based compensation system for managerial, professional or supervisory employees. The Staff Compensation Program (SCP) is the compensation and merit program for employees in URA-AFT. Educational; sessions are held each spring for new supervisors of employees who are eligible for P4P and/or SCP.

Right-to-Know (RTK)
This session covers the NJ Right-To-Know law and PEOSHA's Hazardous Communication law and reviews other pertinent information relevant to the employee’s work location.

Supervisor Development Program (SDP)
The Supervisor Development Program is designed to enhance new and existing supervisory employees’ knowledge and expertise in three key areas: establishing yourself as a supervisor, managing employee performance, and creating a positive work environment.
