Facing a layoff can be an unexpected and troubling experience. Staff in University Human Resources and other offices are available to assist and guide you during this difficult time.

The following information is intended to assist employees who were informed of a layoff. Employees are encouraged to meet with a member of the University Human Resources staff to guide them through the layoff process. University Human Resources can provide advice on conducting a job search, writing a resume, or applying for jobs. We also have a listing of websites to assist you in conducting a search of job opportunities in the area. Check the calendar for dates and location of sessions on conducting a job search or writing a resume. When you login to regsiter, sleect the "Personal and Career Development" category. The following sessions are available during the summer, 2009.

Targeted Topic: Writing Effective Resumes & Cover Letters
This “brown bag” workshop will cover all facets of resume writing including structure, formatting and content. This will include guidelines for both traditional and electronic mediums. Having an effective resume (and cover letter) is key to getting the interviews that you want. This session is targeted towards employees who recently lost their job. Session is held over the lunch hour, so feel free to bring your lunch.

Targeted Topic: Starting a New Career
This “brown bag” workshop covers the basics of conducting a job search by focusing on assessing current skills, resume and cover letter tips, identifying desired work environments and conditions, interviewing, and other tips for learning more about job opportunities. .This session is targeted towards employees who recently lost their job. Session is held over the lunch hour, so feel free to bring your lunch.

The Workforce New Jersey Public Information Network (wnjpin) provides career and job training resources. In addition, the State of New Jersey Department Labor and Workforce Development coordinates information on career fairs in New Jersey.
