As the end of the fiscal year approaches, you should review your accrued vacation time and consider taking time off in order to avoid possible forfeiture of excess accruals. Under the new vacation policy that went into effect on July 1, 2010, vacation accruals are credited monthly, but the carry over limit is still a one year allotment. As part of the new policy implementation, a transition period was provided for some long term employees who might need additional time to use accruals in excess of the one year allotment. This allows employees to carry over up to two years of accrued vacation time through fiscal year 2013. However, on June 30, 2013, any days in excess of one year vacation accruals will be forfeited.
Please review your absence records using the Absence Reporting System to ensure that you do not have over two years of accrued vacation time. If you do, plan to use this excess time before June 30, 2011 or it will be forfeited. You may also donate excess time to the Compassionate Leave Bank, if your bargaining contract permits (excludes AFSCME Local 1761).
