Do I have to apply for a job online?

Yes. All the materials needed to successfully coordinate your search - resumes, cover letters, references - will be automatically catalogued into the account you create when you log into the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

Do I need to apply for each Rutgers position for which I am interested?

Yes, you should apply online for a specific position, since only the hiring department has access to your specific information.

How can I revise the information on my application?

You can delete their application for a posted opening within 24 hours after submitting, and resubmit a new application.

I already work at Rutgers and want to apply for another job. Do I have to use the Applicant Tracking System?

Yes, if you wish to apply for an Administrative or Managerial, Professional, Supervisory or Confidemtial position, or a Clerical, Office, Laboratory, or Technical (COLT AFSME 1761) position you must do so online though the ATS. All the materials needed to successfully coordinate your search - resumes, cover letters, references - will be automatically catalogued into your account.

I am a Class 4 employee; do I have to register as an external applicant?

Any employee who is in the payroll system can apply for positions on the ATS as an internal applicant using their Net ID and password.

I don’t have easy access to a computer at work or at home. How can I apply online?

There are a number of ways to apply online. We have computers available for use at both Rutgers-New Brunswick and Rutgers-Newark locations. You may visit University Human Resources office between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 57 Route 1, ASB II, on the Cook Campus or Newark Human Resources office Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 249 University Avenue, Blumenthal Hall, Suite 202. One of our staff assistants will help you search our job listings and assist you with completing an online application. Your local library can also help you to access a computer.

If you already work at Rutgers, you can ask your departmental human resources representative where you can have access to a computer. As an alternative, you can access a computer at any library on campus or use a computer in one of the computing labs. You will need to show your RU Connection Card to access these facilities.

I have registered online, why did I not receive an email containing my temporary password?

Check the spam/junk mail folder on your email application. Some spam filters may automatically screen out Rutgers emails as spam.

What is the status of my application?

Resumes and applications are sent directly to the department and hiring is done at the department level. UHR cannot determine the status of any application. The department will contact you if interested.

What kind of information will I be asked for in the online application?

You will need to furnish details about your current and past employment history including places of employment, dates of employment, job titles, and major job duties. If you have a resume, you can attach that instead of filling out the job application. You may also attach a cover letter, and other documents.

Why was I unable to attach my resume to my application?

Check the size of the file you are attempting to attach. ATS allows applicants to attach files of no more than 8MB in size. You may have to reduce the size of your file (remove pictures, graphics, etc.).
