Re: Time Sensitive - Lag Pay Out Information

The University is pleased to announce the process and schedule for payout of the lag pay for the period of October 2, 2016 – October 7, 2016 to eligible employees formerly paid through the Banner system.  As you may be aware, employees paid through the Banner system were subject to a one-week lag in payroll. However, last October, as a result of moving to one integrated payroll system, the lag pay was discontinued, and will be paid out to eligible employees in up to two installments, as detailed below. The applicable “lag pay” will be reflected in the paychecks dated March 10, 2017 and July 14, 2017. 1 Please note that, as has been the practice, any employee who separates from the University prior to the schedule detailed below will receive full payout of the lag pay at the time of separation.

Lag Payout Schedule

Eligible employees will receive up to five (5) days of pay (calculated in hours based on a 35, 37.5- or 40-hour workweek 2, as applicable), in two installments, as follows:

  • First Installment
    • Up to two (2) days of the lag week pay will be reflected in the paycheck of March 10, 2017. The payment will be calculated in hours based on a 35, 37.5 or 40 hour, or, for part-time employees, other regularly scheduled hours based on a 5-day work week, as applicable, for time worked and/or paid leave time. 2
  • Second Installment
    • Up to three (3) days of the lag week pay will be reflected  in the paycheck of July 14, 2017. 1 The payment will be calculated in hours based on a 35, 37.5 or 40 hour, or, for part-time employees, other regularly scheduled hours based on a 5-day work week, as applicable, for time worked and/or paid leave time. 2

Employees who worked Overtime during Lag Pay Week

All overtime premium pay due for work performed during the period of October 2, 2016 – October 7, 2016 was paid in October.

Employees on Unpaid Leave at Time of Lag Payout

Any eligible employee who is on unpaid leave when a lag week payment is made shall be paid any missed payment in their first full pay period upon return to work.

Employees Who Separate from Service Prior to receiving all Payments

Any eligible employee who separates from the University for any reason prior to payment of any of time referenced above shall be paid the balance of such pay remaining no later than the first full pay period following separation.

How to Access Lag Payout Information

The lag payout due to you is detailed in “Employee Self Service”. In order to access lag pay information:

  • Go to the “My Rutgers” portal at my.rutgers.edu and login using your NetID and password
  • Click the tab “Employee Self Service”
  • Under “Resources” select PeopleSoft
  • Click the link “Lag Pay” under self-service and you will be able to review the lag pay hours due 2, and once the first installment payment is made, you can review the amount paid, the hours paid 2, and the balance of remaining hours due, if any.

Please note that only those employees who whose payroll records were migrated from the Banner payroll system during the October 2016 conversion and are due lag hours will have lag hours displayed.

If you have questions regarding lag week or self-service, please contact the HR and Payroll Help Center at (848) 932-3888 or hrpayroll_helpcenter@hr.rutgers.edu.

1 Any agreements reached separately between the University and affected collective negotiations units related to this issue shall govern the payout of the lag week.

2 The use of hours with respect to exempt employees is intended to be reflective of the workweek for the position and is not necessarily reflective of hours actually worked for that particular week.
