Dear Colleagues,
We’d like to inform you of an important update regarding retirement plan contributions. As of April 2025, the New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits has adopted a provision under Section 109 of the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022. This change allows for increased catch-up contribution limits for voluntary savings plan participants who turn age 60 through 63 during the 2025 tax year.
What’s Changing?
Eligible employees participating in the following plans are eligible for higher contribution limits:
- New Jersey State Employees Deferred Compensation Plan (NJSEDCP) – 457(b)
- New Jersey Additional Contributions Tax-Sheltered Program (ACTS) – 403(b)
For 2025
- The standard contribution limit is $23,500
- The super catch-up limit (ages 60–63) is $11,250
- The age 50+ catch-up limit is $7,500
Contribution Limits by Age in 2025
- Under age 50: Eligible to contribute up to $23,500
- Ages 50-59: Eligible to contribute up to $31,000 ($23,500 + $7,500)
- Ages 60–63: Eligible to contribute up to $34,750 ($23,500 + $11,250)
- Age 64 and older: Eligible to contribute up to $31,000 ($23,500 + $7,500)
Please note: On January 1 of the year in which an employee reaches age 64, the contribution limit reverts to the standard age 50+ catch-up amount.
What You Need to Do
- No action needed if you want to continue your current contribution (percentage or flat amount).
- Want to increase your contribution?
- Complete the Carrier Allocation/Salary Reduction Form and specify your new per-pay contribution (percentage or flat dollar amount) to take advantage of the increased limit.
- Turning 60, 61, 62, or 63 in 2025?
- If your contributions stopped earlier this year due to reaching the age 50+ limit, they will automatically resume with your August 1 paycheck—no action needed.
- If you do not want to contribute the full super catch-up amount, complete the Carrier Allocation/Salary Reduction Form to adjust your per-pay contribution.
