Services Provided

Administers State Health Benefits Program including medical, dental, insurance, tax-savings, retirement plans and work-life resources and programs, and responsible for the remittance calculation of approximately $378M per year in premium share and pension costs.

The OneSource Faculty and Staff Service Center is your primary source for getting answers to your benefit and wellness questions.  The Benefits and Wellness unit is responsible for the following services:

Compensation Services

Services Provided

Manages the compensation strategy across the university and administers compensation programs that are internally equitable and externally competitive to attract and retain top talent while ensuring compliance with applicable policy, state and federal regulations, and collective negotiations agreements. 

Additional Services Provided

For units that transitioned from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey after June 30, 2013 (generally RBHS positions and central administrative positions which primarily support RBHS): 

  • Assist with developing/reviewing job descriptions (prior to implementation in ROCS) to ensure it accurately reflects the responsibilities and outcomes of the role.
  • Provide assistance with job classifications/reclassifications.
  • Benchmark jobs against survey data to determine competitive compensation ranges for new or reclassified positions.
  • Conduct internal equity reviews.
  • Monitor FLSA classification.
  • Guide RBHS units with respect to salary offers, in-grade salary adjustments, acting assignments, secondary assignments, etc.
  • Advise management on applicable state and federal employment regulations, compensation policies, human resource procedures, and collective negotiations agreements. 

With the exception of the services provided below, specific questions related to employees in a position which, historically, were associated with Rutgers University prior to June 30, 2013, can be directed to HR Consultants.

  • Provide guidance with respect to exceptions to compensation policies exceptions
  • Conduct internal equity reviews as needed.
  • Conduct market data reviews as needed.
  • Benchmark jobs against survey data to determine competitive compensation ranges for new or reclassified positions.
  • Review and evaluate requests for faculty out-of-cycles, including pay equity adjustments.

Services Provided

HR GENERALISTS partner with departmental leadership and their units to support a wide variety of human resource matters. In their role as strategic partners in the hiring, compensation and classification process at Rutgers, they assist units in achieving better alignment and the fulfillment of the units’ missions and goals.  They also provide guidance in the areas of employee relations, resolution of employee issues, HR policies, and performance management.

Human Capital Management

Services Provided

Responsible for the approval and processing of all employment transactions assuring compliance with applicable union contracts, employment law, and university policy; responsible for implementation of salary improvement programs for approximately 20K employees.

  • Implements university wide salary changes and department initiated employee transaction requests using the RIAS HCM Application
  • Responsible for reviewing and processing Template-Based Hire transactions, an electronic process that allows department preparers to enter and submit data into the HCM system to hire new employees
  • Review and process additional transactions such as reappointments, transfers, salary adjustments, reclassifications, promotions, terminations, FTE/Hours Changes and retirements
  • Maintain contact and workflow with departments to complete transactions and monthly reports
