Are there any changes to the retirement application process for PERS and PFRS members?

Yes, The State of New Jersey Division of Pension and Benefits has implemented a significant change to the retirement application process.

Can I still submit a paper retirement application for PERS and PFRS?

No. On or after October 5, 2012, paper Applications for Retirement Allowance received by mail will not be accepted and will be returned by the NJ Division of Pension and Benefits to members with instructions on submitting the retirement application using MBOS.

How do I apply for PERS and PFRS retirements?

Submit an application for retirement online using the Member Benefits Online System (MBOS).

How do I register for MBOS?

If you are new to MBOS, you can access MBOS after you register with both the MyNewJersey Web site and MBOS. Registration is free at: http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/pensions/mbos-register.shtml.

How is it changing?

Effective October 1, 2012, all retirement applications for members of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and Police and Fireman’s Retirement System (PFRS) must be submitted online using the Member Benefits Online System (MBOS).

What action is required for members currently registered for MBOS?

No action is required. You already have access to the online Retirement Application through your MBOS account.

MBOS (Member Benefits Online System) allows registered PERS and PFRS members access to their pension account information and pension applications over the Internet.
