New Employee Checklist

The following is a checklist of items you need to be mindful of as you start your employment at Rutgers. This list includes items for faculty and staff. Depending upon your employment type, some items may not pertain to you.

Please submit benefit forms to your Human Resources department within the time frames listed below from your hire date or benefits orientation date. If you need assistance, please call a Benefits Specialist at 848-932-3990.

Health Plans:

The NJDPB has partnered with Businessolver to offer a new online Open Enrollment tool called Benefitsolver. Employees will be able to log into Benefitsolver by accessing a link on the MyNewJersey portal to make changes to medical, prescription, and dental plans. Enrollment must be completed within 10 day of hire date. Paper forms will no longer be accepted.

Review the Rutgers University Code of Ethics and the Rutgers Plain Language Guide to Fundamental Ethics and Conflicts Rules Established by State Law, Federal Law and University Policy. Complete and return the Receipt and Acknowledgement Form to University Human Resources (staff) or Office of Academic Affairs (faculty).   X    
RUConnection Photo ID Card: 10 Days 30 Days 90 Days Anytime
Visit a RUConnection office, present valid form of government-issued ID, and receive a RUConnection ID card (NOTE - Employee record must be complete in PeopleSoft 3 business days prior to requesting a RUconnection ID Card). X      
Direct Deposit: 10 Days 30 Days 90 Days Anytime
Direct Deposit and W-4 forms can be completed online through Employee Self Service.       X
Parking: 10 Days 30 Days 90 Days Anytime
Call University Parking on your first day at work to let the department know you are a new employee and will be bringing a car onto campus. After you receive your NetID (see below), visit the Parking website and register for a faculty/staff parking permit online. X

Once your employee file is created in the Human Capital Management (HCM) system, you will be assigned an employee ID. This will allow you to request a NetID and e-mail address online, using Employee Self Service in the Human Capital Management (HCM) system. X
