Part-Time To Full-Time

Retirement Plans

Alternate Benefit Plan (ABP) participants

  • If your position was less than 50% time, you have the option of remaining in PERS or switching to ABP. This is a one-time option. 
  • You will receive information about this option within two weeks of your change in status.  Please contact University Human Resources at 848-932-3020 if you do not receive the information. 


Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) participants

  • You will continue to participate in the plan.

PERS Optional Long Term Disability Plan (LTD)

If you are enrolled in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), as a full time employee in an Administrative/Professional/Supervisory position, you are eligible to join the optional LTD plan for administrators.  You have 30 days from your status change date to elect the coverage in order to receive guaranteed coverage.  You will receive information about this option within two weeks of your change in status. Please contact University Human Resources at 848-932-3020 if you do not receive the information. 

Health Plans

As a full-time employee, you are eligible to participate in the State Health Benefits Program.  Please contact the person in your department who handles forms/payroll processing to schedule you for the New Employee Welcome & Benefits Orientation. 

Tuition Remission

Full-time employees are eligible for tuition remission.

Paid Time Off

When a staff member's status changes from part-time to full-time, the Absence Reporting System will calculate (pro-rate for part-time) the monthly accrual on the new percentage rate for the remainder of the fiscal year, expressed as the full-time equivalent.
